Sima Tawakoli

Inside Sales

Sima Tawakoli was born in Iran and came to the US in 2005.
She received a Masters Degree in Architecture and Urban Design in Iran and another in Design and Industry from SFSU, yet she took a circuitous route to the lighting industry. Sima was in graduate school at SFSU, on her way to becoming a civil engineer. Sima is an artist, and she’d entered her work in the school’s Graduate Showcase. The dean saw her work and steered her towards a Design and Industry career. She stayed extra semesters to take lighting classes to complete her thesis.

Prior to joining the 16500 team, Sima was part of the application and tech support team at Lighting Systems; she has also worked as an  architect and designer at various design and architectural firms. As an artist, Sima is primarily a watercolorist, though she also works with acrylics, oil and digital media. For her, lighting design is another creative process. “It’s like painting—but space becomes the canvas on which we are designing!” One of her paintings received a first-place award from the City of Berkeley, was
published as a large poster and installed in an AC Transit Station. Sima has had several exhibitions in Carmel, Berkeley and San Francisco. Sima also enjoys swimming, storytelling and teaching. She’s an active member of IALD, IES an OWA.
